After i downlaod stuff for sims on thesims.com, how do i get it on the game?

i downlaoded hairstyles and other lots for the game. they are in my doents. when i go to play the sims , the things i downloaded from thesims.com arent in the game under the round swirly thing on the create a family thing. where do i put them in order to be able to use them on the game?
