Any dog trainers out there?

I have 2 Alsatians who are the love of my life. Lucy is fantastic, loyal and very obedient. Ben however (1 year old) is also fantastic and loyal, but lacking in the obedience stakes. I simply cannot stop him from pulling on the lead. I have scolded him (humanely), coaxed him, pulled back hard on the lead, all to no avail. Coming back from his walks however, he is as good as gold, it is just the outward journey to the woods where he is a mule. Any pointers PLEASE!!
