Stronghold crusader extreme online question?

me and my brother are trying to play online but we cant. we are attempting the ip address thing but wen we put down our ip adress to join one or the others match it is never found we put the ip address that it says under the insertion box but he cant find my games i cant find his. can anyone give me a link to a tutorial or explain
