The Women 1930s version or todays remake?

The fashion was the most disappointing thing to me about the remake. I *knew* Meg Ryan would look tore up in her face, I *knew* the acting would be not-great, and I *knew* they would make it less of a satire than the original. But I consoled myself with the thought that there would be some lovely clothes. But no. Annette Bening looked like she was stuck in 1992 for the whole film, Meg Ryan was schlumpy at the beginning (though I seriously covet that coat she had on later in the film), Debra Messing looked cute but not FABULOUS, and Jada's clothes were just basics. Why?? Why was this movie necessary???
